In order to meet the ever increasing demands for developing skilled workforce in the construction industry, CSTI has initiated joint ventures with vocational training institutes across the country to train rural youth.

Tie-up with MoRD:

Larsen & Toubro Ltd., ECC Division, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding in March 2009 with the Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD), Govt. of India in support of MoRD’s implementation of “Demand Driven Skill Development Programme” of livelihood through training. This strategic tie-up with MoRD is a part of L&T’s Skill Development Initiatives by means of training the rural youth in Construction Skills, to enable their livelihood and it is covered under Swaranjayanti Gram Swarojgar Yojna (SGSY) Scheme of Govt. of India.

The project plan of this MoU envisages training of 15,000 rural youth below poverty line (BPL), to be sourced by MoRD, from 5 states, viz., Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh and the project duration is 3 years commencing from April 2009. The cost of this Joint Venture Training project is expected to be around 470 million Indian Rupees. Out of which, 30% will be funded by MoRD, Govt. of India as a financial assistance to Larsen & Toubro, towards a portion of the running expenses for training. The remaining 70% to be borne by L&T is towards a part of training expenses and total infrastructure and training facilities.

L&T – ECC Division’s contribution to the Country is three-fold:

	Training the rural youth in construction skills to make them employable in Construction Industry including Company’s project sites.
	Helping to reduce the huge gap between “demand” and “availability” of skilled manpower in the Construction Industry in India.
	Participation in Nation’s strategy for development of rural youth for their livelihood.

Vocational Training Institute at Punjab:

An MoU was signed with the District Rural Development Authority, Muktsar, Govt. of Punjab during 2007 for setting up Craftsman Skills Training Centre (CSTC) at Abul Khurana, District – Muktsar. The role of L&T is Knowledge Partner and hand holding in running the CSTC.
CSTC – Abul Khurana commenced training on 29th Dec 08.

CSTC - Chhindwara:

Construction Skills training institute has been set up at Chhindwara in collaboration with Confederation of Indian Industry( CII), which was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Minister Mr. Kamalnath on 20th Sep ’08. Training in Bar-bending & Steel Fixing trade commenced on 3rd Nov ’08.

L&T- CSTD signed MoU with JSS Mahavidyapeetha, Mysore on 7th July 2008 to provide Construction Skills Training to the unemployed youth of Mysore and Chamarajanagar.

Signed MoU with the Directorate of Employment & Training (Labour & Employment Department), Govt. of Gujarat for setting-up construction related trades in Govt. ITIs under MES.
